My name is Jonathan and I’m from just outside Belfast, Northern Ireland. I’ve a degree in Biblical Studies and Byzantine Studies (BA: Major-Minor) and a masters in theology (MTh: specializing in New Testament and Christian Origins [esp. Second Temple Jewish monotheism and the development of Christology]).

This blog will contain my musings on anything I feel like from theology and biblical studies, to chess, to the delights of the cream egg. Blogging should be fun, so I hope that you, dear reader, will help as Captain Picard would say to “make it so”.

All polite and courteous comments are warmly welcomed.

I believe the good news is about God reaching out to lost humanity through his Son in the costly vulnerability of love. By his Spirit, we are to be caught up into the very life of the triune-God, being transformed and renewed along with the rest of creation. In this present time, as part of the church, we are to build for the kingdom until the final consummation of all things at Christ’s second coming.

Personally-speaking, the confession of the Apostles’ Creed seems sufficient for saving faith, which is always faith seeking understanding. God is probably much more gracious about these things than we tend to be in the church.

Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth:
And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord,
Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,
Born of the Virgin Mary,
Suffered under Pontius Pilate,
Was crucified, dead, and buried:
He descended into hell;
The third day he rose again from the dead;
He ascended into heaven,
And sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost;
The holy Catholick Church;
The Communion of Saints;
The Forgiveness of sins;
The Resurrection of the body,
And the Life everlasting.
